National security is secured to the maximum, and the government's attention is currently focused on securing public security, Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara said.
The Deputy Minister commented while expressing views to the media regarding the prison clash. The government is seriously focused on the series of unfortunate incidents reported within prisons during the past few days, and special statements were also made regarding it by the Minister of Justice and Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa, the Deputy Minister pointed out. The Deputy Minister added that the police and the Ministry of Justice jointly commenced special investigations and inquiries to the situation.
"Various reasons could exist behind such incidents being reported in four prisons within three days. A special discussion presided over by the President was also held yesterday evening regarding this. Due to the ongoing investigative work, it is not appropriate to disclose further information," the Deputy Minister further stated.
Emphasising that no issue existed regarding national security across the entire country, Deputy Minister Aruna Jayasekara mentioned that the tri-forces stood ready to assist the police at any moment to maintain public order and law. The government acted with utmost confidence to secure public security in accordance with the Constitution, the Deputy Minister said.
