Transfers for several senior police officers

Police Headquarters has taken steps to transfer several senior police officers, subject to the approval of the National Police Commission.

Accordingly, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Kithsiri Jayalath, who was in charge of the Southern Province, has reportedly been appointed SDIG in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

Meanwhile, SDIG Waruna Jayasundara has been appointed to oversee Training and Advanced Training duties in addition to his existing responsibilities for Children and Women’s Affairs.

SDIG K. P. Karunananayake has been appointed SDIG in charge of the Northern Province, having previously been assigned to special security duties.

Police Headquarters further stated that SDIG Buddhika Siriwardena has been transferred from the Northern Province to serve as SDIG in charge of the Southern Province.

The Petroleum Dealers’ Association says it is scheduled to establish its Western Province branch tomorrow (09).

The association said the branch was being established as a matter of urgency because the Western Province has the highest number of petroleum dealers in the country.

The association said petroleum dealers have not yet received fair solutions from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to the issues they face, and that the association is being established with the aim of finding solutions to those problems.

The association’s regional branches have already been established in all districts except Kurunegala and Jaffna.

However, the association further stated that steps would be taken to establish branches in those two districts as well in the future.

International Cat Day is an annual global celebration observed on 8 August.

The day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness about the protection and welfare of cats, promote adoption and celebrate cats as companions.

The day was initiated by IFAW in 2002 to support both stray and domestic cats.

Special attention is given on this day to promoting education on cat health and humane treatment.

The final of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) cricket tournament will be played between the Galle Gallants and Jaffna Kings at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo tonight (08).

At the end of the league stage, the two teams had secured first and second places respectively in the points table, with Jaffna Kings finishing first and Galle Gallants second.

Jaffna Kings secured the first spot in the final after defeating Galle Gallants in a closely fought Qualifier 1.

However, Galle Gallants secured another opportunity to play in the final after defeating Colombo Kaps, who had advanced by winning the Eliminator, in Qualifier 2.

The match is scheduled to begin at 7.30 p.m.
