Wheat flour manufacturing companies have taken steps to increase the price of a kilogramme of wheat flour by Rs 17.
Prima and Serendib have announced that the price increase will take effect immediately from today (29).
The price revision is reportedly due to an increase in wheat prices in the global market, as well as rising production costs.
The Bakers’ Association says that, following the increase in wheat flour prices, there is a risk that the prices of bakery products, including bread, could also increase in the coming days.

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to visit Sri Lanka next month, according to reports.
It is reported that IMF representatives will arrive in Sri Lanka in the coming days for the seventh review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
During the visit, the seventh review is expected to be conducted, with consideration also being given to the release of the eighth tranche of the loan, according to reports.
Following the seventh review, arrangements are expected to be made for the release of a loan tranche of approximately US$330 million to Sri Lanka.

Two more Chinese nationals wanted in connection with the abduction and murder of a Chinese national within the Colombo Port City premises have been arrested in the Sigiriya area by the Colombo Crimes Division.
On 23 July, a Chinese national was abducted following a clash among a group of Chinese nationals at Colombo Port City.
Police later found his body at a wooded location in the Eheliyagoda area.
Several suspects had previously been arrested and remanded in custody in connection with the incident, while the Colombo Crimes Division had conducted an extensive investigation into the other suspects who had fled the area following their involvement in the murder.
Accordingly, police had also sought public assistance to arrest three Chinese nationals suspected of being involved in the incident.
Against this backdrop, the two Chinese nationals were arrested yesterday (28) while hiding at a restaurant in the Sigiriya area.
The suspects are due to be produced before court today (29).
