Police say assets worth Rs 6 billion belonging to organised criminals and drug traffickers have been seized since September 2024.
The seizures relate to 113 investigations.
Of these, assets worth Rs 5.423 billion belong to 102 drug traffickers and organised criminals, police said.
The value of the assets seized from just three organised criminals amounts to Rs 209 million.
Police also said assets worth Rs 367 million belonging to eight suspects linked to pyramid schemes, child abuse, explosives and various frauds had been seized.
The assets seized include:
- 55 houses worth Rs 1.437 billion;
- 138 acres of land worth Rs 1.322 billion;
- 142 vehicles worth Rs 1.171 billion;
- 27 bank accounts containing Rs 428 million;
- gold worth Rs 168 million;
- 21 shop premises worth Rs 214 million;
- eight buildings worth Rs 250 million;
- 12 multi-day fishing vessels worth Rs 305 million;
- various other assets worth Rs 239 million; and
- cash amounting to Rs 461 million.
Police said that 66 suspects who had been hiding overseas have been brought back to Sri Lanka since the present government came to power in 2024.
Of these, 38 were organised criminals and suspects wanted in connection with other offences.
A further 28 organised criminals who were the subjects of Red Notices have also been brought back to the country during the relevant period.
The number of International Police Red Notices obtained since the present government came to power stands at 110.
Police said 55 international Red Notices had been obtained in relation to organised criminals and drug traffickers.
Since 2023, a total of 42 suspects have been brought back to Sri Lanka on the basis of International Police Red Notices.
The total number of Red Notices obtained by the Sri Lanka Police that remain in force currently stands at 236.
Of these, 96 have been obtained in relation to organised criminals.
Police also said that a further 93 notices had been obtained to facilitate the repatriation of suspects to Sri Lanka.
