JONES IS 25 YEARS OLD, A PATRIOTS CORNERBACK ALLEGEDLY HAD TWO LOADED HANDGUNS AS HE WAS GOING THROUGH SECURITY IN TERMINAL B, THAT’S WHEN A STATE TROOPER WAS CALLED TO THE AREA. HE IS FACING SEVERAL CHARGES TONIGHT, INCLUDING POSSESSION OF A CONCEALED WEAPON IN AN AIRPORT AND POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION WITHOUT A FIREARM IDENTIFIED IN CARD. JONES WAS BOOKED AT THE AIRPORT BARRACKS AND HE WILL BE ARRAIGNED THIS WEEK IN EAST BOSTON. THE PATRIOTS, BY THE WAY, CONFIRM THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ARREST, BUT HAD NO FURTHER COMMENT. AND ED, ON THE FOOTBALL SIDE OF THINGS, HE HAD 30 TACKLES AS A ROOKIE LAST YEAR, 13 GAMES, TWO INTERCEPTIONS, SCORED A TOUCHDOWN AND A PRETTY GOOD ROOKIE YEAR. HE LEFT THE SCHOOL AFTER ACADEMIC PROBLEMS FIRST AND THEN IN 2018, HE WAS ARRESTED IN CALIFORNIA FOR BREAKING INTO A RESTAURANT AND EVENTUALLY SERVED 45 DAYS. A New England Patriots player traveling from Boston to Arizona was arrested Friday evening at a Transportation Security Administration security checkpoint at Boston's Logan Airport, Massachusetts State Police said.The player, identified by police as Jackie K. Jones, 25, of Arizona, was facing multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card.A TSA spokesperson said its agents discovered two loaded firearms and ammunition in the carry-on luggage of a male passenger ticketed for travel to Los Angeles International Airport. "This occurred around 5:20 p.m. EDT during the routine X-ray screening of carry-on luggage at the airport’s security checkpoint," the written statement from TSA said. State police said they were called to the TSA security checkpoint in Terminal B at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday after the discovery was made by TSA. Police say they identified the passenger as Jones and arrested him.Jones was booked at the State Police Logan Airport Barracks, with bail set at $50,000, according to state police. He was scheduled to be arraigned in East Boston District Court next week. The Patriots released a brief statement, confirming the arrest. "We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today," the spokesperson said. "We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time."Jones was entering his second year as a cornerback for the Patriots, and had impressed at mandatory minicamp this week. He had a strong rookie season but was suspended for two games at the end of his rookie season following an issue with his injury rehab. He had 30 tackles as a rookie in 13 games, two interceptions and scored a touchdown. Firearms can be transported on a commercial aircraft only if they are unloaded, packed in a locked, hard-sided case and placed in checked baggage, according to the TSA. Ammunition and firearm parts, including firearm frames, receivers, clips and magazines are also prohibited in carry-on baggage and must be checked.The TSA said these were the ninth and 10th firearms discovered by TSA in carry-on luggage at Boston's Logan Airport in 2023. "More than 2,900 firearms have been discovered by TSA officers nationwide so far this year," the statement said. "More than 92% of those have been loaded."According to the TSA, the recommended civil penalty for bringing a firearm to the security checkpoint can go up to a statutory maximum of more than $14,950 per violation."TSA evaluates each incident on a case-by-case basis," the statement said.
