Sydney Sweeney will not be appearing in The Devil Wears Prada 2, despite previously being photographed on set alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
The Euphoria star managed to carve out time in 2025 to visit the A-list cast, sparking fan speculation about a potential role for Sydney in the movie. The highly-anticipated sequel revisits the glamorous world of The Devil Wears Prada, where a formidable magazine editor and her new assistant go head-to-head.

She was, however, expected to portray herself as a celebrity client working alongside Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), another one of Miranda's former assistants. This comes as fans have labeled Sydney's hit show a 'disaster.'
An insider, however, told Entertainment Weekly not to count on Sydney actually featuring in the final cut. The source described it as a "creative decision" to drop the cameo, making no mention of Sydney's recent string of controversies.

The filmmakers reportedly felt her scene ultimately didn't fit within the overall storyboard, though they remained grateful for Sydney's participation. The decision to cut the cameo was, by all accounts, not an easy one for the production team, reports The Mirror US.
The Devil Wears Prada is scheduled for a May 1 release date. Sydney's negative publicity began in late 2025 when she partnered with American Eagle for a jeans marketing campaign. In advertisements for the brand's denim line, she referenced having "good jeans," intended as a double meaning for the phrase "good genes" in relation to her blonde hair and blue eyes.

However, the public interpreted this as a "Nazi dogwhistle" given the notorious emphasis the Nazi regime placed on people with certain physical characteristics. Critics accused Sydney of promoting eugenics, which the company firmly denied was ever the intention.
"'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans, her story," the retailer stated. "We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.

"I was honestly surprised by the reaction," Sydney told PEOPLE. "I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don't support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren't true."
The controversy surrounding Sydney's political affiliations continued to intensify as she was branded a conservative by the public. Adding fuel to the fire, voting records revealed the actress was registered with the Republican Party. Sydney faced additional backlash upon her return to Euphoria, where she portrays Cassie. In the series, she displayed her physique as a cam girl, donning a dog costume for some puppy play. In a separate scene, Cassie seemed to dress in an infantilized fashion, prompting the public to condemn her for supposedly depicting age play.
