SLITHM has developed a new, highly specific, academically sound Training model named as “National TouristInterpreter”.This will be a critical tool for enhancing the quality, meaning, and sustainability of tourism experiences beyond conventional round tour guiding services. It enables visitors to understand the ecological, cultural, and social significance of Sri Lanka fostering respect, responsible behavior, and long-term conservation outcomes. By translating complex local knowledge into engaging and accurate narratives, interpretation transforms tourism from passive sightseeing into informed experiential learning.
In contexts such as Sri Lanka, where tourism landscapes are living systems shaped by biodiversity, cultural heritage and community livelihoods, effective interpretation plays a vital role in reducing environmental pressure, minimizing misuse of sensitive sites, and strengthening visitor appreciation.
