Cheryl Hines shared her side of the story after shots rang out at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The wife of Robert F Kennedy Jr. posted about the harrowing experience on her Instagram Story shortly after leaving the scene. On April 25, at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, the alleged shooter stormed a security checkpoint and opened fire.
Donald Trump, Melania Trump, JD Vance and Karoline Leavitt were escorted off the stage by the Secret Service. RFK Jr. appeared to leave Cheryl behind as he was whisked away by security, while she followed, with no one appearing to protect her.

Cheryl wrote on Instagram after the ordeal, "Okay so I just got back from the White House Correspondents' Dinner. That was a crazy moment in time."
"So we were there, and we heard shots, everybody got under the tables, nobody knew what was going on, and then Bobby's security detail surrounded us, and took us, had to lift me over chairs, because I'm in heels, and a gown," she continued. "They took us through all of the back ways, and we got in the car and left."

Later, she gave another update that read, "Thank you for everyone reaching out asking if we're okay, and we are okay. I'm in my pajamas now watching the news break just like you guys, but everybody stay safe."
Footage was shared online of RFK Jr. being helped and leaving Cheryl behind and users on X couldn't help but comment. "Top 10 highlights from the staged active shooter influencer activation for Trump's new ballroom: Cheryl being left behind like a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode," one person said.

Another user pointed out that it was just standard protocol, writing, "I wanna s--t on RFK too, but this is standard secret service protocol, you scoop up your protectee, and nobody else matters."
Because RFK Jr. is the Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Trump Administration and a member of the president's core cabinet, he would benefit from the highest level of protection from the Secret Service. His wife, sadly, doesn't get the same protocol.

A California man allegedly armed with "knives and guns" was quickly apprehended and arrested after storming the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Reports have already confirmed that no one was seriously harmed in the incident and that the suspect remains in custody.
Trump used the incident to justify building his White House ballroom, saying, "It's actually a larger room, and it's much more secure. It's drone proof, it's bulletproof glass — we need the ballroom."
