Jaffna District MP Ramanathan Archchuna, who is currently in remand custody, is scheduled to be produced before the court today (April 29).
He was arrested by Ilavalai Police on April 27 and was subsequently remanded until today after being produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court.
The arrest was made in connection with an incident reported on April 25 in the Periyavilaan area of Jaffna, where the MP is alleged to have threatened a woman while carrying a firearm during a land-related dispute.
Police said there is an ongoing court case regarding ownership of the land in question.

The MP claims ownership of the land, while a woman has also filed a claim asserting rights over the same property.
According to reports, on April 25 the MP was engaged in clearing activities on the disputed land when two women arrived and claimed ownership of a portion of the property, leading to a heated argument.
The dispute subsequently escalated, resulting in the alleged threats made by the MP, police said.
