The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has formally requested Eran Wickramaratne to relinquish his party membership, in line with party policy.
In a letter dated yesterday (April 29), SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara informed Wickramaratne of the decision, following his resignation from the party’s Working Committee and Management Committee.
The party has acknowledged receipt of his resignation through a separate communication.
The letter notes that SJB policy has consistently required sports governing bodies to remain free from political interference and that individuals affiliated with political parties should not hold positions within such institutions.

It further notes that continuing party membership under the current circumstances would be inconsistent with this policy and states that, on ethical grounds, Wickramaratne should also step down from the party.
Accordingly, he has been formally requested to take the necessary steps to resign.
