St. Joseph’s College, Colombo emerged champions of the U19 Inter-Schools Division 1 Tier ‘A’ Two-Day Cricket Tournament 2025/26 after securing first innings points against Royal College, Colombo in the drawn final of the tournament.

After winning the toss, St. Joseph’s College produced a dominant batting display to pile up a massive 443 runs in their first innings. The innings was anchored by an outstanding century from middle-order batter Senuja Wekunagoda, who top scored with a superb 123 runs off 188 deliveries, including 12 fours and 2 sixes.

Chethina Kavinda, Rishma Amarasinghe, Dilpa Maduranga, and Nushan Perera all chipped in with crucial half-centuries to put their side in a commanding position in the final.

In reply, Royal College responded with a spirited batting effort and fought hard to stay in the contest posting 378 runs in their first innings. Vimath Dinsara narrowly missed out on a century after scoring an excellent 95 runs, while Ramiru Perera added a fluent 90 runs to keep Royal College in the hunt.

However, St. Joseph’s College managed to secure the all-important first innings lead thanks to a fine bowling effort led by wrist-spinner Vigneshwaran Akash. He starred with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for 136 runs to play a decisive role in the title-winning performance.

With the final ending in a draw, St. Joseph’s College were declared champions by virtue of their first innings advantage, capping off an impressive campaign in the U19 Inter-Schools Division 1 Tier ‘A’ Two-Day Cricket Tournament 2025/26.
