In 2021, The Black Keys released their ode to Mississippi hill country standards, Delta Kream. Fast-forward five years, the duo once again offers their takes on classic tracks with Peaches!—this time opening up regionally and mixing a little bit of rock and a little bit of soul with their blues picks (although songs by Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside make an appearance on both). Scorching through 10 tracks for a gritty and lo-fi showcase of garage-band bona fides while staying reverent to the originals’ spirit, vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney pay homage to their roots in what feels like an ambitious but intimate jam session. Take the coarser version of Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s “Who’s Been Foolin’ You” and the lightly slackened interpretation of Wilko Johnson’s “She Does It Right”—master classes on modern vibes.
