"The song just spilled out of me in an afternoon; it’s for the ethers now." So says Hannah Cohen regarding "Golden Chain," her first new song since last year's Earthstar Mountain. It's a minimal, almost spectral song that blurs together folk and retro pop in a way that reminds me of Faye Webster or Lana Del Rey. The Catskills singer-songwriter's soprano is bright, piercing, and pleasingly raw as she delivers lines like "I wanna matter more to you than those internet girls you do."
The formidable aura surrounding "Golden Chain" is enhanced by Keenan O'Meara's music video, which makes Cohen look like a glamorous throwback Hollywood star on an upstate New York retreat.
