Donald Trump has been labeled an "absolute moron" by Fox News viewers after delivering a puzzling statement about the war in Iran.

The president, 79, answered questions from reporters, with one focusing on a letter he sent to congressional leaders on Friday, May 1. In the letter, Trump indicated that hostilities with Iran have "terminated" and argued the 60-day deadline to seek congressional approval to continue the conflict no longer applied.

Despite Trump's claims, the U.S. has maintained a naval blockade of Iranian ports, which has significantly reduced Tehran's crude oil exports. In the wake of the naval blockade, Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan has been removed from his position.

During a live Fox News broadcast on Saturday, May 2, a reporter pressed Trump on the blockade, asking, "Mr President, in your letter to Congress, you said that hostilities in Iran have been terminated. How can you say that given that the naval blockade is still in place?"

Trump responded, "Well, it's a very friendly blockade. Nobody's even challenging it. Nobody at all is challenging it. Just so you understand, many presidents have been involved in things that are very big," reports the Mirror US.

He continued, "They never had to go through anything with the respect to Congress. They considered it to be totally unconstitutional. And the Democrats in Congress have pushed this, and probably a couple of Republicans. They're hurting our negotiating ability."

The president claimed America's negotiating power is "infinite right now" before criticizing the politicians once more and declaring, "And they shouldn't be doing it." Trump went on, "It's never happened before. No other president's done it and I'm not gonna be the first."

A clip of the Fox News segment was posted on X, with viewers wasting no time in condemning Trump. "Let's set up a "friendly blockade" on Trump," one person urged.

Another blasted, "So f--king stupid...an absolute moron," while a third Fox News viewer questioned, "Why does Trump keep LYING about NO other President never having Congress approve a War Powers Resolution before?"

"Mr Fixit. Fixing it with his blustering-tarmac- big-mouth, a debacle of his 'epic fury'," another fumed. "His propaganda machine is spewing lies that are multiplying faster than anyone can cope with. The entire organization needs to be shut down."

A fifth person sarcastically remarked, "Yeah, I'm sure "friendly blockade" is a term commonly used in diplomatic circles." Another Trump critic noted, "A blockade that, under international law, is literally considered an act of war. "Friendly" doesn't make it legal. It makes it a lie."

Trump's comments on Fox News follow his formal letter to Congress, in which the president stated he launched Operation Epic Fury against Iran and informed Congress on February 28, citing it as "consistent with my responsibility to protect Americans and United States interests at home and abroad, and in furtherance of United States national security and foreign policy interests."

The letter went on to state, "On April 7, 2026, I ordered a 2-week ceasefire. The ceasefire has since been extended. There has been no exchange of fire between United States Forces and Iran since April 7, 2026. The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated."
