Iran’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, recently attended a ceremony at the Fathima Orphanage and Ladies Hostel in Colombo, aimed at supporting orphaned children and advancing humanitarian initiatives, the Iranian Embassy said in a statement.
During the visit, the Ambassador interacted with the children and took part in a programme that symbolically brought together orphaned students and the memory of schoolchildren in Minab, in a shared classroom setting reflecting hope and solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Delkhosh stressed that civilians, particularly children, are protected under armed conflict, describing such protection as a peremptory norm (jus cogens) of international humanitarian law. He further alleged that on February 28, 2026, U.S. missiles targeted a girls’ school in Minab, resulting in the deaths of 168 children, which he described as a violation of humanitarian principles.
On behalf of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ambassador also handed over donations to the institution, underscoring Iran’s commitment to humanitarian values and support for vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka.
The ceremony also featured a message delivered by a student on behalf of the children and teachers, expressing appreciation for the Embassy’s assistance, while mourning the loss of innocent lives and voicing hope for a future where all children are safe and cared for.
