Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are hitting the New Jersey Turnpike a little later than expected.

The band's show Friday, May 8 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia has been postponed to Saturday, May 30 because the Philadelphia 76ers upset the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs and will play a playoff game at the arena against the New York Knicks on Friday.

The fact that the Philadelphia Flyers are also in the NHL playoffs complicates things. The Flyers play playoff games versus the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, May 7 and Saturday, May 9. The 76ers also play Sunday, May 10.

“Due to the NBA and NHL playoff schedule, the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert at Xfinity Mobile Arena has been rescheduled for May 30,” said Team Springsteen in an early Sunday, May 3 social media post. “All tickets for the previous date will remain valid for the new date.”

Springsteen and the E Steet Band are currently on the Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour. The band played Saturday, May 2 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta and up next is Tuesday, May 5 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. More upcoming area dates include May 11 and 16 at Madison Square Garden; and May 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The tour was scheduled to conclude May 27 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. but as scheduled now the finale will be May 30 in Philly.

Philadelphia, which was an early supporter of Springsteen, has a recent history of postponed dates. Springsteen and the E Street Band postponed two shows in August of 2023 at the city's Citizens Bank Park for August of 2024 due to the Boss' peptic ulcer disease, from which he's recovered.

Springsteen is also scheduled to perform June 5 and 6 at the Music America: The Songs that Shaped Us concerts at the OceanFirst Bank Center on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch. The concert, presented by the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music, will also feature Jon Bon Jovi, Little Steve Van Zandt, Jackson Browne, Public Enemy, Rosanne Cash, Kenny Chesney, Mavis Staples and more, and will serve as the cornerstone events of the opening of the new Springsteen Center at Monmouth University on June 7.
