Britney Spears
has reached a plea deal related to her
March 2026 DUI arrest
in Ventura County, California.
According to
TMZ
, prosecutors agreed to drop the misdemeanor DUI charge in favor of a lesser “wet reckless” charge after Spears
voluntarily entered rehab
. She will receive credit for time served and must complete a DUI class and pay state-mandated fines and fees.
“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” her attorney Michael Goldstein told TMZ in a statement. “She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI. Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received.”

The 44-year-old pop singer was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. local time on March 4th. She was handcuffed, taken into custody, and booked around 3:00 a.m., according to arrest records.

In a statement following her arrest, a representative for Spears said “hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in [her] life.”
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” the representative added. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
Spears subsequently checked herself into rehab.
