Fire at house being treated as attempted murder
An investigation into a house fire in Saltcoats is being treated as attempted murder, Police Scotland have said.
Emergency services were called to reports of a fire on Canal Street at about 11:20 on Saturday.
The fire was put out and no-one was injured.
However, following inquiries police have said a door at the property was set alight deliberately.
Det Con Neil McGregor said: "This reckless, deliberate act of setting fire to the door of the property could have had far worse consequences and it's vital we trace whoever is responsible.
"Extensive CCTV and door-to-door inquiries are being carried out by officers but I'm appealing for the public's help as part of our investigation.
"Were you in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously? Did you see anyone running away or a vehicle leaving the scene?"
He asked anyone with information to contact Police Scotland.
