New York, NY – 17 May 2022 – GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS ™, the global authority on record-breaking, announces today that Juan Vincente Mora, of Venezuela, is the oldest person living (male) at 112 years, and, as of today, 355 days old.
Born on May 27th, 1909, in El Cobre, Mora is one of Eutiquio del Rosario Pérez and Edelmira Mora’s ten children.
Mora comes from a family of farmers, dedicated to planting sugar cane and coffee. His career as a farmer was prosperous and long and sold his last piece of land at the age of 104. He began working as a sheriff at 34 and solved land or interpersonal disputes in the community.
He met his wife, Ediofina del Rosario García, after attending weekly Catholic mass with her and they were married in 1937. Together, they had eleven children. Ediofina passed away in 1997 and Mora says that was one of the hardest years of his life.
As of 2022, Mora has 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
He became a supercentenarian in May 2019. Mora’s family celebrated the occasion with a special painting that now hangs in the courtyard of his house. He says it was his favorite birthday!
Every day, Mora has a cup of coffee to start his day and meals with his family. He is passionate about his faith and prays the rosary daily. He says his family and friends are his greatest life companions.
Mora says the greatest thing he has learned in life is “the love of God, the love of family, and that we must get up early to work.”
He received the record title after Mr. Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia (Spain, b. February 11, 1909) passed away on January 18h, 2022 at 112 years and 341 days.
The oldest person (living and female) is Sister André of Toulon, France (b. February 11, 1904 as Lucile Randon), aged 119 years and 95 days.
The oldest person ever to have lived was Jeanne Louise Calment (France, b. February 21, 1875) who lived to Aug. 4, 1997, aged 122 years and 164 days.
