Investigate individual and aggregated pharmacy analytics with Ontario College of Pharmacists public data and public Ontario census data.

Simple explanation: You can investigate individual pharmacy in Ontario by their location, the type of workplace, the % of international FTEs (full time equivalents) that are employed there, and aggregated pharmacy density information for every FSA (forward sortation area, first 3 digits of a postal code) from a scale of yellow to red. You can also see community, hospital and other FTE's for that FSA region for all of Ontario.

Detailed explanation: Pharmaceutical census is an app that shows Ontario pharmacy aggregate information and individual data. Initially, I created software to obtain all the public information on pharmacists and their associated workplaces (such as a Shopper’s Drug Mart or Hospital). I then assumed that everyone works full-time (or 1 FTE (full time equivalent); while this may not be true, it gets us most of the way there. The FTE’s that that person gave per worksite was then calculated as 1 FTE / number of worksites worked at. This was then aggregated at different levels – by pharmacy, type of pharmacy, geographic region (FSA – forward sortation area, first 3 digits of postal code) or Canadian/foreign trained status. This information was then joined to Ontario census data from statistics Canada for the FSA region and additional metrics were calculated such as pharmacies per 10,000 population. This information was plotted on a leaflet map with a color gradient scale reflecting the variable of interest and deployed on shiny. Additional individual options were created from using the address of the pharmacy and geolocating it through google API and plotting it on the leaflet map with FTEs of the variable of interest being aggregated at the pharmacy level.
