Damar Hamlin had a cardiac arrest during Monday’s NFL game against the Bengals. It was a moment that left his fellow teammates in a vulnerable state until their teammate was taken to the hospital.
The Bills stated that Hamlin’s heartbeat was revived on the field. While the medical personnel attended to him before he was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A family spokesman clarified Wednesday that Hamlin was only revived once, not twice as his uncle had previously claimed to CNN.
“My nephew basically died on the field and they brought him back to life,” Glenn said Tuesday.

As of today, his condition remains the same but he has shown signs of improvement but remains in a critical state. The fans are showing ultimate support for the player as his team tweeted about his current condition.
“He is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him,” the Bills said.
Damar remains in the ICU in critical condition with signs of improvement noted yesterday and overnight.

The reason behind Hamlin’s cardiac arrest remains unknown. According to Glenn, Hamlin is on a ventilator to decrease the pressure on his damaged lungs. “It seems like he’s trending upwards in a positive way,” Glenn said of his nephew, who was “flipped over on his stomach” in the hospital by the doctors to help with the blood in his lungs.
The NFL is being criticized for how it protects players in an inherently violent sport. The critics came multiple times during Hamlin’s cardiac arrest. With about six minutes left in the first quarter of Monday’s game, Hamlin lost consciousness shortly after clashing with Higgins, who was attempting to run past Hamlin who had come in for a tackle. Damar Hamlin continued to twist Higgins to the ground before standing up, but soon collapsed and lay motionless.
