Consumer expenditures for athletic gear, game tables, and exercise equipment doubled in 2021
The average consumer unit spent $111.80 on athletic gear, game tables, and exercise equipment in 2021. That was more than double the average spending of $54.33 in 2020. Athletic gear, game tables, and exercise equipment include wearable fitness trackers and pedometers, treadmills, stationary bicycles, weights, and other home gym equipment.

Although spending on athletic gear, game tables, and exercise equipment rose sharply in 2021, a slightly smaller share of consumer units reported expenditures for these products, 1.6 percent of all consumer units in 2021, compared with 1.7 percent in 2020.
