Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid reached the 150-point plateau on the season Saturday against the San Jose Sharks.
McDavid hit the milestone with his 63rd goal late in the first period.
The 26-year-old McDavid entered the game with a league-leading 148 points and picked up an assist on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ goal earlier in the frame.
McDavid has been running away in the chase for his fourth career and third consecutive Art Ross Trophy. He holds a 27-point lead over teammate Leon Draisaitl, who is second in the league in scoring.
McDavid’s previous career high was 123 points, achieved last season.
The most recent player to surpass the 150-point mark in a single season was Mario Lemieux, who had 161 points during the 1995-96 campaign with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
McDavid has tied Bernie Nicholls for 16th on the all-time list of most points in a single season. Nicholls had 150 points with the Los Angeles Kings in 1988-89.
Next on the list is Phil Esposito’s mark of 152 points achieved in 1970-71.
Wayne Gretzky set the all-time record with the Oilers during 1985-86 with 215 points.
Edmonton has two more games remaining on the regular-season schedule after Saturday’s contest.
