A recent survey conducted by Amazon has revealed a possible change of name for its OTT streaming service from Prime Video to Amazon TV. The survey was presented to eligible individuals and OnlyTech was able to access a copy of the survey where Amazon displayed the logo of the service along with a few other details. It asked the individuals what they felt about the new name and also that some of the other names they are considering are Amazon Stream, Amazon+, Amazon Streaming & Amazon Premiere.
Prime Video, the one-stop entertainment destination is getting a new name: Amazon TV. When you download the free Amazon TV app, everyone can rent or buy their favorite new release and classic movies and TV shows. And subscribing to Prime gives you unlimited access to Amazon Original movies and TV shows like Maja Ma and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power-plus the ability to add on your choice of 100+ other streaming services like Lionsgate Play and Discovery+ with a single password. When it comes to entertainment, it’s what you’ve come to expect from Amazon-everything! Said the text below the new logo
The image in the survey had artwork from an Amazon Original, The Rings of Power along with titles that are not currently available on Prime Video in India which include Avatar- The Way of Water and HBO’s Succession. This could either be due to the survey being common across all countries where Prime Video is available or an indication that these titles will be added to the Indian streaming platform. Amazon has not disclosed a timeline for the change of name to take effect.
Amazon does currently offer a free ad-supported streaming service within its shopping app called ‘Amazon Mini TV’ which offers content from studios such as TVF, and Pocket Aces, as well as comedians, including Ashish Chanchlani, Amit Bhadana, Round2Hell, Harsh Beniwal, Shruti Arjun Anand, Elvish Yadav, Prajakta Koli, Swagger Sharma, Aakash Gupta and more. It is unclear whether this content will also be available to view on the big screen with Amazon TV service.
The wording used by Amazon calling it a free app might also indicate a shift toward a freemium model (Speculation) where some content may be available to stream for free with ads whereas subscribing to Prime would give access to Amazon Originals as well as other premium content and access to Prime channels which cannot be subscribed to in the absence of a prime subscription. However, one can still buy or rent select titles from the store tab even without having a Prime subscription.
