Constantly clearing your throat can be annoying and get in the way of your daily life. It is often caused by allergies, acid reflux, or drainage from the nose. Even though it seems like a small problem, it can cause a lot of stress and embarrassment. In this piece, I'll talk about what it was like to have a sore throat all the time and what I did to stop it.
I had to clear my throat all the time for years. It made me angry. I cleared my throat all the time and often had to clear my throat more than once a minute. It made my wife mad, as well as my coworkers, and was especially hard for me to focus. It made it harder to get work done, play video games, and even just hang out with friends.
I lived with this for about 10 years but a few months ago I decided I had to do something about this problem, so I started to look into possible answers. I'm happy to say that after trying many different products and methods, I've finally found a few that work for me.
Saline Nose Spray
A saline nasal spray is the first thing I would suggest to someone who has to clear their throat all the time. This can help stop postnasal drip and clear your nose, which can stop you from wanting to clear your throat. Using a saline nose spray twice a day helped me feel better. It was easy and worked well.
Throat Lozenges
The other thing that helped me was a throat lozenge with slippery elm bark in it. Slippery elm bark is a natural treatment that can calm and soothe the throat. I found that sucking on a slippery elm lozenge when I wanted to clear my throat helped to lessen the feeling and made it easier to fight the urge.
Adjustable Bed Frame
A bed frame that can be raised up and down is the third thing I would suggest. Even though this may seem like an odd idea, raising your head and upper body can help reduce acid reflux, which can be a big reason why you have to clear your throat a lot. I found that using an adjustable bed frame let me sleep on a small incline, which helped stop acid reflux and ease my symptoms.
Other tips
In addition to these items, I also changed how I lived, which helped me stop clearing my throat all the time. I tried to drink enough water because being dehydrated can make throat pain worse. I also tried to stay away from spicy or acidic foods, coffee, wine, and other drinks that can cause acid reflux.
I've found that the best way to stop my constant throat-clearing is to use a mix of products and make changes to how I live. Even though everyone's situation is different, I hope that telling my story will help others who are going through the same thing.
