The New Jersey Devils have done it!

They're moving on to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after taking down their New York Ranger rivals 4-0 in Game 7 tonight.

In the must-win game the Devils skated circles around the Rangers, using their young, rebellious legs and talent to win the decisive game.

The Devils season, which has been filled with incredible moments, lives on for another series.

"Obviously really happy right now," Captain Nico Hischier said, "it's those games you want to play in. To beat (the Rangers) in a Game 7 at home, I think those are memories that are going to stick forever."

Michael McLeod opened the scoring, Tomas Tatar added the second goal Erik Haula added a third goal and Jesper Bratt hit the empty net, while it was a mesmerizing performance by rookie netminder Akira Schmid. Schmid posted his second shutout of the playoffs tonight and made 31 saves against the Rangers.

"It's great, who would have thought at the start of the season," Tatar said post-game, "But we've come a long way. I think we deserved it. We played really confident."

The Devils move on to the Second Round to face the Carolina Hurricanes who finished a single point ahead of New Jersey in the league standings.

"Some people would be like, oh, they're inexperienced, but really we're just like, we don't know better," Jack Hughes said in the locker room, "We just play and we do the best we can."

Enjoy this moment, and quickly turn the page, because there's more playoff hockey on the horizon!
