Dale Steyn announced his retirement from all forms of cricket

The great South Africa pacer Dale Steyn announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday, 31 August. Steyn took to Twitter to share the announcement of his retirement.

Cricket will be poorer without the rhythmic run-up and an action that was all about grace, for there was no better sight in cricket than watching Dale Steyn striding in and attacking the batsmen.

Dale Steyn made his first international debut in 2004. In his 17 year career, he played 93 Tests, 125 ODIs, and 47 T20Is. He announced his retirement at the age of 38.

In 2019 he had announced his retirement from the Test match but wanted to continue playing limited-overs cricket. However, his last international match was in February 2020 when South Africa took on Australia in a T20I series.

Legendary pacer Dale Steyn was fondly known as “Steyn Gun” among fans for his express pace.

Dale Steyn Tweeted on Twitter and said “Today, I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bittersweet but grateful.”

“It’s been 20 years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell.

“Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together.”

He played in T20 franchise leagues thereafter, including in the PSL(Pakistan Super League) in March this year. He also pulled out of the IPL(Indian Premier League) but insisted he wan not to retiring.

However, on Tuesday, he brought his career to a close, quoting lines from the Counting Crows song “A long December.”

Dale Steyn was one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket.
