Eyesight Issues and How to prevent
In these days, most of adults are starting to experience eyesight issues, especially when we work or read using our computers, laptops, smartphones and playing digital game consoles. Besides, there’re still a lot of root causes about losing eyesight and a lot of ways to prevent. I’ll share with you as much as I know.
Our eyesight is important since we rely on thus almost everything we function in our daily life. So, we need to have better or good understanding about our eyes, don’t we?
Common Eyes Disorders
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD or AMD)
This is an eye disorder associated with aging and results in damaging sharp and central vision.
Cataract
Cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens and it leads to blindness and this disorder can occur at any age.
Diabetic Retinopathy
It leads to blindness in adults, age 20 to 74.
Glaucoma
A disorder which can damage the eye’s optic nerve and results in vision loss and blindness.
Amblyopia
This is referred to as ”lazy eyes” and it’s different from normal eyes. It can cause vision impairment in children.
Here are some symptoms of vision loss.
Blurry vision
Double vision
A sudden decrease in vision
Sensitivity to light
Eye pain
Itchy and burn eyes
Red eyes
Seeing spots
Impaired color vision, etc.
Here are some root causes of eyesight issues.
Stress and depression cause eyesight loss
Studies have found that stress can cause vision problems and can lead to vision loss. Depression also causes loss sight. In the study with 80 people, depressed individuals had difficulty seeing differences in colors. So, it would be better for us to stay calm and cure our bad emotion.
Stop smoking
It can cause cataract (one of the disorders) and damage optic nerve of our eyes.
Adjust your screen time
If you stare at your phone screen for a long time, you’ll feel dry eyes, headaches and neck and back pain.
Other Facts
Others are alcohol, ready-made foods, fried foods.
Now, let’s have a look at things that are good for eyes.
Foods which have Vitamin C, E and Omega 3.
Carrots
They are rich in Vitamin A, which is essential nutrient for vision.
Bell Pepper
It is rich in Vitamin C. Try eating raw with salad. But, it is not a common vegetable in Myanmar.
Seeds and Nuts
Sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, peanut (including peanut butter) and apricots have Vitamin E which will prevent from Cataract (blurry, foggy vision).
Salmon
It has Omega 3 which helps to decrease ARMD disorder and Glaucoma.
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes, carrots, potatoes are high in Beta-Carotene (like Vitamin A). It helps our night vision better.
Wear Sunglasses
Find a good one which prevents 99 to 100% of UV-A and UV-B sun rays.
Try 20-20-20 Rules
Every 20 min, take a break and look away 20 feet apart from your device for 20 seconds. It is supposed to decrease our screen time and kind of distractions from screen. It will affect after months you try.
