The 30-scrip BSE Sensex started with significant gains and continued its momentum throughout the session. It surged 813.94 points or 1.42% to close at 58,014.17 points. Similarly, the NSE Nifty jumped 237.90 points or 1.39% to close at 17,339.85 points.

Among sectoral indices, auto, pharma, IT, oil & gas, PSU Bank, and realty rose 1-3%. BSE midcap and smallcap indices added 1-1.7%.

Tata Motors: The domestic automaker’s shares gained 4.06% to closed at Rs 517.50 after it reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,516 crore for the quarter ended December as a net profit of Rs 2,906.5 crore.

Reliance Industries: The shares surged 2.06% to close at Rs 2,384.05 after foreign research firm CLSA upgraded the rating to ‘buy’ and raised the target price to Rs 2,955 from Rs 2,850. On January 21, Reliance reported a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 18,549 crore for the quarter ended December 2021, 41% higher than Rs 13,101 crore in the year-ago period.

Britannia Industries: The FMCG company stock surged 0.98% to close at Rs 3,544.20 after it reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 371 crore for the third quarter ended December 2021, lower by 19% from Rs 456 crore in the year-ago period. Research firm Macquarie has maintained a “neutral” rating on the stock and the target price is at Rs 4,000 a share.

Sun Pharma: The pharma company share rose by 0.80% to close at Rs 834.00 after the firm reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,059 for the December 2021 quarter, up by 11% from the year-ago period. The board declared an interim dividend of Rs 7 for the financial year ended on March 31, 2021.
