Top U.S. women’s pole vaulters Katie Nageotte and Sandi Morris each easily qualified for the event final at the World Athletics Championships on Friday night at Hayward Field.
Nageotte and Morris each cleared 14 feet, 9 inches on their first attempt to move through to Sunday’s final. The United States’ Gabriela Leon cleared 14-3¼ and also was among the 15 competitors who advanced to the final.
Nageotte, 31, ranks No. 1 in the world and is the reigning Olympic gold medalist. Morris, 29, holds a No. 3 world ranking, was the silver medalist at the Rio Olympics and also took silver at the 2017 and 2019 world championships.
