The Commonwealth Games has been rocked by a sickening track cycling crash for the second time in as many days.

This time, in the second qualifying heat of the men’s 15km scratch race, Matt Bostock of the Isle of Man and England’s Matt Walls were involved in a horrifying crash that sent Walls flying into the crowd.

Walls was trying to avoid fallen riders by riding up the banked curve, but collided with a rival and subsequently slid straight into the crowd.

Bostock was subsequently removed from the Lee Valley VeloPark on a stretcher, while screens were placed around Olympic omnium champion Walls as he was given treatment in the stands. He was later taken to hospital for ‘precautionary checks’.

According to the BBC, a crowd member was removed from the venue in a wheelchair “covered in blood”, while a young girl was treated for a cut on her arm.

Australia’s Joshua Duffy was also involved in the incident, but appeared to be largely uninjured, while Canadian Mathias Guillemette was disqualified.

Canadian Derek Gee – No. 15, in blue below – just managed to escape also going into the crowd.

The rest of the session was cancelled and the velodrome cleared.
